Sudbury East Building and By-law Services (SEBBS) is responsible for enforcing municipal by-laws within the Municipalities of French River, Killarney Markstay-Warren and St Charles.

By-laws are created to address local community issues, including the protection of the environment, public health and safety, and to maintain an orderly appearance in the community.

  • Travel Trailer Licensing

  • Short-Term Rentals

  • Zoning

  • Parking and Traffic

  • Signs

  • Smoke Free

    Common By-law Infractions May Include:

  • Messy or unsightly yards

  • Dogs off leash

  • Noise complaints

  • Open burning concerns

  • Improper snow removal

  • Other property standards concerns

Reporting a By-law Infraction

It is always best if neighbours can respectfully resolve issues without having to submit a complaint. If possible, discuss the problem with your neighbour. If your efforts are unsuccessful, the SEBBS team may be able to assist. Submissions are reviewed during regular office hours. 

Submitting an official Complaint: 

  • Within five business days of receiving your complaint, staff will provide an acknowledgement.

  • The acknowledgement will identify the staff member assigned to investigate and provide their contact information.

  • All complaints are kept confidential.

Emergencies

  • For emergencies, call 9-1-1.

  • For non-emergency matters such as public nuisance, property damage, vandalism, public alcohol consumption, traffic, or criminal activity, call the Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) Non-Emergency Line: 1-888-310-1122.

The personal information you provide when submitting a complaint is collected under the authority of the Municipal Act, 2001 and will be used by the Municipality of French River and SEBBS staff solely for the purpose of investigating and resolving the matter.

This information is protected under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA).
